Barcelona’s 2-1 Comeback at Valladolid Strengthens La Liga Lead

VALLADOLID — FC Barcelona showcased resilience and depth on Saturday, overturning an early deficit to secure a 2-1 victory against already-relegated Real Valladolid. This win extends their lead atop La Liga to seven points, intensifying the pressure on second-placed Real Madrid, who face Celta Vigo on Sunday.

Valladolid stunned the visitors early, with Iván Sánchez finding the net in the sixth minute after a deflected cross beat goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen, marking his return after a seven-month injury layoff.

Barcelona, under the guidance of Hansi Flick, fielded a rotated lineup ahead of their upcoming Champions League semi-final second leg against Inter Milan. Despite initial struggles, the Catalans found their rhythm in the second half. Substitute Raphinha equalized in the 54th minute with a well-placed half-volley, and six minutes later, Fermín López capitalized on a precise pass from Gerard Martín to net the winner.

The match also saw the debut of 19-year-old Dani Rodríguez, who was substituted before halftime due to injury, making way for Lamine Yamal. Additionally, Gavi exited late in the game with a suspected hamstring issue.

With this victory, Barcelona amass 79 points, maintaining a firm grip on the title race. Their next challenges include the crucial Champions League encounter against Inter Milan and the highly anticipated El Clásico against Real Madrid.
